Nelson Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, political leader, and philanthropist, born on July 18, 1918, in Mvezo, South Africa. He spent 27 years in prison for his activism against the apartheid regime before being released in 1990. Mandela went on to become the first black president of South Africa, serving from 1994 to 1999. He was a central figure in the fight against apartheid, and his leadership and advocacy for reconciliation between black and white South Africans helped to bring an end to the oppressive regime. Mandela was also a philanthropist and established the Nelson Mandela Foundation, which works to promote education, health, and human rights in South Africa and around the world. He died on December 5, 2013, at the age of 95, but his legacy continues to inspire people around the world to fight for justice and equality.
