Geraldine Brooks is an Australian-American journalist and author, born on September 14, 1955, in Sydney, Australia. She began her career as a journalist for The Sydney Morning Herald and later worked for The Wall Street Journal, where she was a foreign correspondent covering conflicts in the Middle East. Brooks is also a successful author, having written several acclaimed novels, including “March,” which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2006, and “Year of Wonders,” which tells the story of a plague outbreak in 17th-century England. Her writing often explores historical events and figures, bringing them to life through vivid and engaging storytelling. Brooks currently lives in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts with her husband, author Tony Horwitz, and their two sons.
